Youth Ministry

In answer to the call of the U.S. Bishops to “to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community,” St. John the Baptist Youth Ministry Group (SJYM) was created in 2008 with the mission to lead youth to become imitators of Jesus Christ.

We seek to empower young people and engage them in the adventure of discipleship by establishing a community for them with which to serve, to share faith and to grow as followers of Jesus Christ.  While the group is based in St. John the Baptist and affirms the teachings and values of the Catholic Church, all youth ages 13 to 17 – regardless of parishioner status or religious beliefs – are invited to join SJYM.

Youth group is a prerequisite for Confirmation candidates serving as the first year of Confirmation preparation. In this vein, catechism as well as community building is given equal focus. Regular attendance and participation is mandatory for members seeking to enter Confirmation program the following year.

Youth ministry meetings are on Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Community Center.

For more information contact the Gina DeLaTorre, Youth Ministry & Confirmation Director at (510) 815-0050 or by email.
